| Boiler Thermal / Peformance Engineer, Central Branch (South Normanton/Selby) The key duties for this position are:- • Provide competitive utility boiler designs for the firing of coal, oil and gaseous fuels • Provide technical data sheets for boiler performance, pressure parts and associated performance equipment such as mills and fans • Provide process flow diagrams, P&I diagrams, instrument schedules and valve lists In order to be effective in this role, applicants will have experience in the thermal and hydraulic calculations associated with large utility power boilers. The successful candidate will have a good degree in mechanical or chemical engineering with relevant experience. The chosen candidate will have experience in design and specification of boilers and auxiliary equipment associated with large utility power plant. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Minimum Qualifications Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Degree or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Degree and Chartered Engineer status Experience Significant and appropriate experience in respect of the design and sepcification of boilers and auxiliary equipment associated with large utility power plant. KEY COMPETENCIES Knowledge of power plant cycle arrangement and operation Knowledge of boiler plant equipment, operation and control Significant experience with the design of coal-fired boilers for wall-fired utility boilers Significant experience with the specification of auxiliary equipment such as fans, mills, air heaters, sootblowers etc Knowledge and application of all relevant national & international design codes and standards Self-motivated to ensure that work is produced on time and to budget Strong written and oral communication skills in English KEY DUTIES Provide boiler designs which will achieve the required thermal and hydraulic performance and achieve the required auxiliary power consumption in accordance with code requirements Provide appropriate auxiliary equipment specifications and technical data sheets so that each item is compatible with the plant interface terminal points Provide P&I diagrams which incorporate the necessary regulating devices and instrumentation to enable safe and efficient plant operation and control Provide process flow diagrams for water/steam and air/gas systems which identify all the necessary key node points and process flow data within and at the limits of plant supply Maintain and enhance the company’s design processes, capability and reputation Self-checking of own work to ensure accuracy and consistency |
