    This is a mpeople vacancy operating as an employment agency.

    This well established company is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Payroll Manager to ensure smooth and efficient running of the department and team. Based within the Blackburn office the Bureau, which is established and continues to grow, currently has c.145 clients across a variety of business types and sizes.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • To actively manage and support the other members of the Payroll Bureau team.
    • To assist in generating new work for the Payroll Bureau as well as identifying possible additional work opportunities for the practice.
    • To receive payroll details, and process this information into the payroll software
    • To create BACS files and transmit same
    • To transmit to HMRC, through the Internet, Forms P45, P46, P14 and P35 at year end
    • To download HMRC notification Code Numbers
    • To deal with queries, raised by HMRC, concerning client payrolls.
    • To deal with payroll queries raised by clients
    • To save, in pdf format, reports within the firm’s client filing system
    • To notify clients of amounts due to HMRC
    • To work efficiently and to tight deadlines
    • To comply with the requirements of the firms staff handbook
    • To undertake such additional or alternative duties when requested and in line with experience, skills and training

    Skills/Attributes Required:

    • Proven ability to supervise/manage a team of people
    • Sound working knowledge of calculating PAYE both manually and via payroll software
    • Awareness of all HMR&C rules, regulations and deadlines these impose
    • Good, all round working knowledge of SSP, SMP and SPP
    • Excellent working knowledge of a recognised payroll software application
    • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook as well as an understanding of databases (e.g. Access)
    • Excellent communication skills as there will be considerable contact with clients at all levels as well as HMR&C
    • Good organisational skills as well as the ability to take initiative and contribute to the effective running of the department

    Training Provision:

    • Training and support in the payroll software and systems used by the Bureau.
    • Regular appraisals to ensure personal development

    Salary £21,500 per annum, 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 23.5 days holiday per annum + Bank Holidays. On site free parking
